Start of the trail for wagons bound west and hometown of President Truman, Independence, Missouri, is well-endowed with historic attractions including covered wagon tours through the old part of town.
The Santa Fe Trail-Pikes Peak Greenway is a non-technical, wide multi-use trailway, extending almost 18 miles on US Air Force Academy lands. Riders will enjoy the excellent views of Pikes Peak from the Santa Fe Trail as it winds toward Palmer Lake.
The Santa Fe Trail-Pikes Peak Greenway is an excellent location for beginner bikers to get used to riding their bikes. In addition, the length of this ride, 18 miles just one way, gives ample opportunity for more advanced riders to get a spin workout.
The Santa Fe Trail-Pikes Peak Greenway is on US Air Force Academy property and all riders biking here need to wear a helmet and carry photo ID at all times.
